Group sessions are around the corner! At times in therapy, group counseling can be an effective way to process thoughts and feelings. Based on your individual therapy sessions it may be recommended to try group. There will be 4-6 weekly sessions which will discuss topics such as mindfulness, nutrition and yoga. Finding ways to cope with anxiety and depression can be truly helpful in your journey! At times it may be anxiety provoking to join group, however the growth and change will shift those feelings of discomfort to progress. More details to come, please inquire!
You may be reading this looking for something a little different out of therapy. You may feel stuck from the past and have trouble moving forward.
Counseling and the therapeutic process start with building rapport and trust. As clients begin utilizing coping skills and gaining support they simultaneously reduce symptoms and begin feeling better overall.
The only downfall with this is often clients come back to therapy when the next big situation comes up, which unfortunately the events do come up. The best part about following a trauma resolution model is at the end you will have the skills to handle the next big situation when it comes.
Progressive Counting means the therapist counts aloud as a distraction technique so the client isn't too overwhelmed by the bad memory. It is discussed as if it were a movie creating distance from pain. As this happens the therapist asks questions to reframe and reformat the memory differently so it doesn't hurt as bad.
The memory could be a car accident, losing someone you cared about, moving, bullying, abuse or neglect or anything you consider traumatic.
Although structured, this is a step by step model fit to your needs. Contact me for more information. Let the journey begin. I look forward to hearing your story.
